Mexican singer-songwriter, musician and producer Marco Antonio Solis will receive the tribute ofPerson of the Year 2021′ in the next edition of the Latin Grammy, that grant this title as a tribute to the artists who have left their mark on the history of music.
“I am very excited and grateful to the Latin Recording Academy for this special distinction and of such value for my career and my personal life,” the musician said in a statement.
Winner of five Latin Grammys, Solís will join a prestigious list of recipients of the Latin Grammy Person of the Year award, which includes, among others, stars such as Marc Anthony, Vicente Fernández, Gloria Estefan, Shakira, Juan Luis Guerra, Julio Iglesias, Maná, Rubén Blades and Juanes.
“Marco Antonio Solís is a living legend and one of the most emblematic figures in Latin music,” said Manuel Abud, CEO of the Latin Recording Academy.
The Person of the Year gala is usually held one day before the Latin Grammy awards ceremony in November, as an event in which a dozen musicians perform the best-known hits of the honoree.
The trajectory of Marco Antonio Solis
Born in Michoacán (Mexico) in 1959, Solís created his first group, The Little Solis Brothers, when he was just 12 years old, along with his brother Joel.
He was still a teenager when in the early 1970s he formed the band the bukiswho for two decades left an indelible mark on norteño and tejano music in Mexico and the southwestern United States.
Although Solís continued to work closely with Los Bukis, he embarked on a solo career that led him to obtain platinum records for his works ‘Quiéreme’, ‘Inalcanzable’ and ‘Por amor a mi pueblo’.
Then came works like ‘Trozos de mi alma’ in 1999 and ‘Más de mi alma’ in 2001.
In addition to his twenty albums, singles and tours, he has written and produced music for stars such as Rocio Durcal, Raphael Y Bright Star.
He has also shared the stage with musicians such as Marc Anthony, Laura Pausini and Alejandro Fernández.
