a man from utah who had been accused of uttering threats against President Joe Biden died Wednesday after being shot by FBI agents, hours before the president visited the state, authorities reported.
Special agents tried to execute a court order at Craig Deleeuw Robertson’s home in Provo, south of Salt Lake City, when shots were fired around 6:15 a.m., the FBI said in a statement.
Robertson was armed at the time of the incident, according to two law enforcement sources who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity to discuss details of an ongoing investigation.
How did they threaten Joe Biden?
Robertson public online on Monday that he had learned that Biden was visiting Utah and that he was planning to bring out his camo gear and “clean dust off m24 sniper rifle″, according to court documents.
In another post, Robertson described himself as a “MAGA Trumper,” a reference to former President Donald Trump’s “Make America Great Again” slogan.
The posts noted that he appeared to have a long range sniper rifle and several other weapons, as well as camouflage clothing known as an “ambush suit” or “ghillie suit,” investigators said in court documents. Robertson was charged Tuesday with three felony counts, including making threats against the president, court documents show.
Robertson also referenced a “presidential assassination” and made other threats online, including some against high-ranking officials overseeing the prosecutions against Trump: Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg; Attorney General Merrick Garland; and New York Attorney General Letitia James.
“The time is right for a presidential assassination or two. First Joe, then Kamala,” Robertson wrote on Facebook in September 2022 in a post that was included in the documents. At this time, there was no attorney for Robertson listed in the court documents.
No further details were released about the incident, which is being investigated by the FBI.
At the Provo home where the incident apparently took place and which was linked to Robertson through public records, police officers could be seen going in and out and removing items Wednesday.
A broken window could be seen by the door and the blinds inside were crooked.
The street leading to the house was blocked by the police.
Biden stands in the middle of a trip to the west from United States. On Wednesday he went to New Mexico, where he spoke at a factory that will produce wind towers, and was scheduled to fly to Utah later.
On Thursday, he is expected to visit a veterans’ hospital and hold a fundraiser for his re-election campaign.
