Maharashtra government has appointed people related to Dawood in Waqf Board: Fadnavis

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Leader of Opposition in Maharashtra Devendra Fadnavis on Monday accused the state’s Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government of appointing people with links to fugitive gangster and terrorist Dawood Ibrahim in the state’s Waqf Board. . The ruling coalition ally NCP, however, rubbished the allegation and alleged that the office-bearer mentioned by them was nominated to the board during the BJP’s rule. Fadnavis said in the Assembly that he had submitted a pen drive, which contains talks between Waqf Board members Mohammad Arshad Khan and Mudassir Lambe.

Fadnavis told the House that during the conversation, Lambe claimed that his father-in-law was Ibrahim’s associate while Khan said that one of his relatives was part of the underworld. The BJP leader alleged that Khan is in jail while Lambe is out despite facing rape charges.

The daughter of currently imprisoned cabinet minister Nawab Malik who handles the Waqf portfolio, however, rubbished Fadnavis’s allegation.

Sana Malik-Sheikh refuted Fadnavis’s claim, saying that it was the previous government in the state led by him (2014-19) that appointed Lambe to the board, who was accused by the BJP leader of having links with Dawood Ibrahim. have put. Sana Malik-Sheikh, vice-president of the Maharashtra unit of the Nationalist Youth Congress, a wing of the NCP, hit back at the former chief minister and shared a picture of Lambe with Fadnavis on Twitter.

Emphasizing on Sana Malik-Sheikh’s claim, Maharashtra Congress General Secretary Sachin Sawant demanded a probe into the “BJP’s connection with the so-called Dr Lambe” and urged Home Minister Dilip Walse Patil to pay attention to the new revelations.

Minority Affairs Minister and a senior NCP leader Nawab Malik is currently in judicial custody in connection with an alleged money laundering probe related to Ibrahim’s activities.

Sana Malik-Sheikh tweeted, “Half truth is complete lie. Dr. Lambe was appointed as a member of the Waqf Board by the Fadnavis/BJP government on 13 September 2019. The Maha Vikas Aghadi government was formed in November 2019. My father got the Minorities/Waqf portfolio in the first week of January 2020.” After this, Sawant demanded the Home Minister to pay attention to the ‘new revelations’. The NCP is a major constituent of the Shiv Sena-led MVA government.
