‘Lord, you have looked me in the eye’: Do they pay double if I work on Holy Thursday and Good Friday?

Do you work in the middle of the Easter holiday bridge? This interests you, because, when a company tells you that you must attend on a date marked as a mandatory rest day, they must pay you a extra amount for your services.

Article 75 of the Federal Labor Law states that workers, together with employers and owners, determine who, among the workforce, will provide their services on a holiday and what is the remuneration for their services.

What days are mandatory rest in 2023 (and should you be paid double if you work them)?

  • January 1 (New Year).
  • The first Monday of February (Commemoration of February 5, promulgation of the Political Constitution of the United Mexican States).
  • The third Monday of March (Commemoration of the March 21stbirth of Benito Juárez).
  • the 1st of May (Labor Day).
  • On September 16 (Commemoration of the Grito de Dolores).
  • The third Monday of November in commemoration of November 20 (Commemoration of the Mexican Revolution).
  • December 25 (Christmas).

Easter 2023 holidays end on this date

The 2023 school calendar indicates that the Easter holiday period began on Monday, April 3 and ends next Friday, April 14, so basic education students will have two weeks off.

Therefore, students must return to classrooms next Monday, April 17.
