The playwright, actor and director of Puerto Rican roots Lin-Manuel Miranda was nominated this Tuesday in two categories of the Oscars from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciencesincluding that of best song, for “Dos Oruguitas” and of best musical score along with Mike Elizondo, Germaine Franco and Tom MacDougall. Both nominations were for work on the Disney film, “Charm”.
On the other hand, Ariana DeBose, whose father is Puerto Rican, was nominated in the category of best actress for her role as Anita in the film “West Side Story”. Puerto Rican Rita Moreno won this award 60 years ago for the same role. “West Side Story” appears on the list of nominees for best picture.
The films that received the most nominations this year for the Oscars were “The Power of the Dog”, with 12, “Dune”, with 10, and “West Side Story” and “Belfast”, with 7 each.
Miranda was previously in the running for an Oscar when he was nominated for the song “How Far I’ll Go” from the 2016 animated film “Moana.”
The 94th Annual Academy Awards will be held on March 27 from the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, California.
