Karnataka Hijab Controversy: 5 Muslim Girls Asked For Transfer Certificate From College, College Said – Application Incomplete, Give New Application

Five Muslim girl students of the University College in Hampankatta here have requested the college administration to issue Transfer Certificate (TC) for admission to other colleges. Please tell that the college had banned the wearing of hijab in classes, which was opposed by Muslim girl students. Recently, Mangaluru University vice-chancellor PS Yadapadithya had announced that if he is not inclined to comply with the High Court’s order asking girl students to follow the uniform code prescribed by the respective institutions, the university will not allow other colleges. Will make special arrangements for Muslim girls to join. College principal Anasuya Rai said that the five girl students had requested for TC so that they could enroll in other colleges that allow hijab. Rai said, since the applications written by them were found to be incomplete, the girl students were asked to submit a fresh letter with corrections. Rai said that the girl students have not yet come back with new letters. All the undergraduate classes have been shifted online as the evaluation work is going on in the campus, the principal said. He said barring a few girl students, all 44 Muslim girls studying in UG courses are attending the classes.
