Arriving in Alabama, Trump told supporters, “This is an act of desperation by a failed crooked Joe Biden and his radical leftist thugs to keep their hold on power.” A day after his trip to Washington, Trump was warmly received by Republican leaders at a dinner in Montgomery, Alabama.
The 77-year-old billionaire won Alabama with a landslide in 2016 and 2020, and all six Republicans sent by the state to the House of Representatives in Washington endorsed his re-election candidacy ahead of the evening ceremony. He also has the support of Alabama’s senior senator, lieutenant governor and agriculture commissioner. However, the junior senator and governor have not yet endorsed any candidate in the Republican primary.
The federal court has framed four charges against Trump. Trump (77), who is staking claim for the Republican Party’s candidacy in next year’s presidential election, appeared in a federal court here. He has filed a ‘not guilty plea’ in the court of Indian-origin Judge Magistrate Moxila Upadhyay in Washington DC.
Wearing a navy blue suit and red tie, Trump arrived at the court complex in a motorcade after flying from Bedminster, New Jersey. Trump has appeared in court for the third time in four months. After arriving at court, Trump was arrested and tried on four charges in the indictment of Special Counsel Jack Smith. An indictment has been set against Trump for conspiracy to defraud the United States, influencing witnesses, conspiracy to violate the rights of citizens and obstructing official process.
Judge Upadhyay read out the charges against Trump and accused him of conspiring against the US to reverse his election defeat against Joe Biden of the Democratic Party, who is now the US President. If found guilty, Trump will face a long prison sentence. At the start of the hearing, Judge Upadhyay asked, “What does Trump have to say on charges one through four?” On this Trump, surrounded by his lawyers, said, “No crime committed.”
During the hearing, Trump answered questions about his name and age, while rarely looking at prosecutors. When asked whether he understood that his words could be used against him, he replied in the affirmative. The judge told Trump that he would be allowed to go, but with the condition that he would appear in court whenever called. Trump is now scheduled to appear in US District Judge Tanya Chutkan’s court on August 28, but has the option of exempting him from personal appearance.
Smith said, “The attack on our nation’s capital on January 6, 2021, was an unprecedented attack on the institution of American democracy. As described in the indictment, it was motivated by lies.” The hearing lasted for 27 minutes. During this, Trump was sitting just 20 feet away from Smith.
The US Department of Justice’s special counsel submitted a 45-page indictment, which the grand jury heard for months and recorded statements from some of Trump’s close friends, to find out why he lost to then Democratic Party candidate Joe Biden. What kind of tried to convert. Biden took the oath of office in January 2021 after winning the said election.
On January 6, 2021, when the Parliament was about to confirm Biden’s victory, Trump’s supporters attacked the ‘US Capitol’ (US Parliament House). “The defendant (Trump) was determined to remain in power despite the defeat. Therefore, for more than two months prior to election day on November 3, 2020, the defendant falsely propagated that the election results were fraudulent and He has won. These claims were false and the defendant knew it.”
In his statement, Trump told supporters that he had done nothing wrong and the allegations against him were politically motivated. Trump also dismissed allegations that he had done something wrong after the 2020 election.
