Jemima and Deepti’s half-centuries beat UAE by 104 runs

Sylhet, October 4 (Agency)

Fifties from Jemima Rodrigues and Deepti Sharma helped India thrash the United Arab Emirates (UAE) by 104 runs in the Women’s T20 Asia Cup here on Tuesday. The UAE made a splendid start as India reduced their score to 20 for three within five overs. After this, Jemima (75 not out in 45 balls) and Deepti (64 off 49 balls) added 128 runs in 13.3 overs to take India to a massive score of 178 for five. The UAE team, consisting of 11 players of Indian origin, could only manage 74 runs for four wickets in 20 overs.

India have won three matches in a row and their claim of a place in the semi-finals is quite strong. However, the team has yet to play its two big matches against Bangladesh and Pakistan.

After Smriti Mandhana, S Meghna and out-of-form Shefali Verma returned to the pavilion early, Jemima and Deepti kept the Indian innings in the 12th over and then batted aggressively, leaving the UAE bowler helpless. Jemima hit 11 fours in her innings while Deepti hit five fours and two sixes.
