Japan PM Fumio Kishida arrives in India for summit talks with Modi

New Delhi, March 19 (Agency) Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida arrived in India on a brief visit on Saturday. He will hold summit talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Kishida reached New Delhi at around 3:40 pm on Saturday and will leave at 8 am on Sunday. The last annual summit meeting between India and Japan was held in Tokyo in October 2018. Apart from key bilateral issues, the current situation in Ukraine is also likely to dominate the Modi-Kishida summit. The Ministry of External Affairs said on Thursday that the summit would provide an opportunity to the two sides to review and strengthen bilateral cooperation in diverse fields as well as exchange views on regional and global issues of mutual interest, so that the Indo- To advance their partnership for peace, stability and prosperity in the Pacific. In December 2019, the proposed annual summit between Prime Minister Modi and his then Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe in Guwahati was canceled in the wake of widespread protests over the Citizenship Amendment Act. In the years 2020 and 2021 also, this summit could not be held due to the corona virus Pandemic.
