Veteran Indian boxer MC Mary Kom was forced to pull out of the 48kg trials at the Commonwealth Games on Friday after suffering a leg injury. The six-time world champion was injured in the first round of the 48kg semi-finals. His withdrawal saw Haryana’s Neetu enter the final of the Commonwealth Games trials at the Indira Gandhi International Stadium here. Last Commonwealth Games (2018) gold medalist Mary Kom fell in the ring in the very first round of the bout. The 39-year-old tried to compete by getting up but after being hit a couple of punches, she lost her balance and sat down holding her left leg. He then had to leave the ring and the referee declared Neetu the winner. The most successful Indian boxer had pulled out of the World Championships and Asian Games to focus on next month’s Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
