Indian lifters win 2 silver medals in Youth World Championship

New Delhi, June 12 (Agency) India’s Akanksha Kishore Vyavare (women’s, 40kg) and Vijay Prajapati (men’s, 49kg) finished second in their events at the men’s and women’s IWF Youth World Weightlifting Championships 2022 in Leon, Mexico. Both these medals came on Saturday, the opening day of the competition. Akanksha lifted a total of 127 kg (59 kg + 68 kg), while Vijay managed to lift 175 kg (78 kg + 97 kg). Akanksha is a trainee of National Center of Excellence (NCE, Aurangabad) of Sports Authority of India (SAI) and Vijay its Patiala unit. “I would like to congratulate all the lifters for doing well during the 2022 IWF Youth World Weightlifting Championships in Lyon and appreciate the efforts of the Indian coaches who have put in a lot of effort,” Sahdev Yadav, President of the Weightlifting Federation of India, said in a statement issued here. Athletes have been trained in a short span of time in the national camp.
