Indian girl student who was struck by lightning in the US “miraculously” recovers

The condition of an Indian-origin girl student who was seriously scorched by lightning in Houston, US, is showing a “miraculous” improvement, which has surprised even doctors. Sasrunya Koduru, a student studying information technology at the University of Houston, was walking with her friends in the San Jacinto Memorial Park on July 2 when lightning struck her. Her condition had worsened and she was fighting between life and death.

Sources associated with the hospital said that she has been able to breathe on her own since last week and has been removed from the ventilator. His doctors said that he is fine without a ventilator and if his health continues to improve like this, he will not need a ventilator any further. Koduru’s family is currently in Hyderabad. Other family members of the girl student told PTI that the family has got visas to visit the US and they will be here next week.

Koduru was unable to breathe, so she was put on a ventilator after ‘tracheostomy’ and food was also being given to her through a tube. His brain had also stopped working and the doctors were waiting for the brain to start working. The University of Houston has not shared any updated information on the matter.

Earlier on July 26, the university tweeted, “Sasrunya Koduru, a graduate student at the University of Houston, was struck by lightning earlier this month. We are concerned about her condition.”

The university also posted on Twitter that it is in touch with the student’s family in India. Considering the seriousness of the situation, the institute said in a statement that its ‘Office of International Student and Scholar Services’ is assisting the student’s parents in the process of obtaining a US visa.
