PM Imran Khan is currently facing political crisis in Pakistan
Lahore :
The politics of Pakistan is passing through a delicate phase at the moment. After joining the opposition front of two important allies-Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) and Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) PM Imran Khan (Imran Khan) has lost majority in the 342-member National Assembly. According to highly placed sources, in this situation, efforts are on to reach an agreement between the PM and the United Opposition to dissolve the lower house through the back door.
Highly placed sources in the government told PTI on Thursday that back-door talks are going on between the Tehreek-e-Insaf-led government and the joint opposition of Pakistan on the issue of no-confidence motion against PM Imran Khan. “The talks are centered on one point - United Opposition, withdraw the no-confidence motion against Imran Khan and instead dissolve the National Assembly and hold fresh elections,” the sources said. Sources said that if the talks between the opposition and the government reach an agreement, then the top person of the government can be the guarantor in this regard. But if the deal is not done, then new elections will be held in August this year.
.
This development comes a day after Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry confirmed the meeting of Pakistan PM Imran Khan with Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Wednesday. The military, which has ruled the country for more than half of Pakistan’s nearly 73-year existence, has so far wielded considerable power in matters of security and foreign policy. On the other hand, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said on Thursday that the joint opposition should not give a safe package to Imran Khan. He said, ‘PM should resign without delay because he has lost majority in Parliament.’ The general secretary of the opposition party, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, Ahsan Iqbal told PTI that his party wants fresh elections.
Significantly, no prime minister has completed his five-year term in Pakistan. Also in the history of Pakistan, no prime minister has been ousted through a no-confidence motion and Imran is the third PM to face this challenge. Imran came to power in 2018 with the promise of creating a ‘Naya Pakistan’, but he must They have failed to address the basic problem of rising commodity prices, giving the opposition an opportunity to dominate them.
