ICP celebrates the 50th. dance week

The Institute of Puerto Rican Culture (ICP) will celebrate the Award Ceremony and Concert of the 50th. Puerto Rican Dance Week this Sunday, May 29, starting at 4:00 pm, at the headquarters of the Círculo de Recreo de San Germán.

This concert, free of charge, will feature the artistic participation of Guateque Taller Folklorico de Puerto Rico. Also, Mauro Ballet will present a dance with some of the songs performed. Both groups promote the development of the fine arts and the cultural value that exalts the Puerto Rican people.

“Amaury Veray and Héctor Campos Parsi rescued this danceable musical genre that unites us in Latin America. Our Musical Scenic Arts program at the Institute of Puerto Rican Culture continues to promote this genre and perpetuate this legacy, dedicating a week to it every year and making new talents known through the Dance composition contest. This year, people will be able to enjoy a concert with works by its best exponents from the 19th and 20th centuries performed by the excellent pianist Nilda Betancourt”, explained the executive director Carlos Ruiz Cortés.

Pianist and teacher Nilda Betancourt will perform the winning pieces of the 2022 Dance Composition Contest: “El revolú” by Alma Batista and “Sorbo de esperanza” by Benjamín Laboy Ruiz. In addition, to the delight of the public, the performance of other dances by contemporary composers will be included. Betancourt is part of the music faculty of the Interamerican University of Puerto Rico, San Germán Campus, where she offers piano and vocal training courses.
