VSThis is a mea culpa as belated as it is prudent. THE New York Times waited six days to half-heartedly regret his treatment of the tragedy at Al-Ahli hospital in Gaza. On October 17, the influential newspaper with 10 million subscribers headlined: “An Israeli strike leaves hundreds dead in a hospital, according to the Palestinians”, repeating without verification the Hamas accusation and making a dangerous amalgamation between Hamas and the Palestinians. On October 23, the daily finally acknowledged that “early versions of the media coverage – and the prominence it received in headlines, news alerts and social media – relied too heavily on claims of Hamas and did not clearly indicate that these claims could not be verified…
