Gurmeet Ram Rahim on one month parole

Rohtak, June 17 (Nis)

Jailed Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim has been granted parole for one month. The Dera chief, who is serving a 20-year sentence in the Sunari jail in the Sadhvi sexual abuse case, had sought parole for forty days. During the parole, the residence of the Dera chief will be in the ashram located in Barwana village of Baghpat, UP. As soon as he reached the ashram on Friday, Ram Rahim released a video for his followers and appealed them to stay at home. During the parole, the Dera chief will have to be under strict security cover as per the jail rules. Earlier, during the 21-day furlough, Ram Rahim had spent time in the ashram in Gurugram. Ram Rahim, who came out of jail for treatment many times, got parole for the first time.

On Friday morning, Honeypreet along with family members had also come to pick up Ram Rahim in the goldsmith jail premises. It may be noted that Dera Sacha Sauda chief Ram Rahim was sentenced on August 25, 2017 by a special CBI court in the rape case, after which Ram Rahim was brought to Sunarian Jail. In the year 2021, Ram Rahim was brought out of jail for the first time in the month of May due to illness. Ram Rahim was also taken to AIIMS in Delhi.

Haryana Prisons Minister Ranjit Chautala said that the 30-day parole has been given by the Rohtak Divisional Commissioner on the recommendation of the concerned officers. The minister said that permission was taken from the administration in Baghpat before the parole was granted.
