In the case of supplying ganja, the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Tarun Singhal has sentenced ganja supplier Surjit to 10 years imprisonment. The court has also imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on him. If the fine is not paid, the convict will have to face additional punishment of six months. The court has given this decision about five and a half years after the case was registered. According to the information, on June 29, 2017, the police had received information that Surjeet, a resident of Ashok Vihar Phase-1, was involved in selling narcotics. At present he is present near Labor Chowk Sector-5.
On this the team reached the spot and controlled Surjeet. The police called the then ACP Mahendra Sethi as duty magistrate to the spot, after which the team searched Surjeet in the presence of the duty magistrate. During this time, 26 kg 700 grams of ganja was recovered from a bag found with him. On this the police registered a case against him and arrested him. The matter went to court. The prosecution went to the court and presented evidence and witnesses and on the basis of that, punishment and a fine of Rs 1 lakh was also imposed.
