North Korea has confirmed its first case of Covid-19 on Thursday. The country’s state media has described it as a serious national emergency after allegedly keeping the Pandemic away for two years. The highly infectious Omicron variant of the virus has been found in samples taken from patients suffering from fever in Pyongyang on Sunday, the official KCNA news agency said.

Top officials of the country, including Kim Jong Un, discussed this crisis in a meeting of the Politburo, in which it was announced to implement the maximum emergency virus control system. According to KCNA, Kim said in the meeting that the goal is to eliminate the root in a very short time.

KCN said, “He assured us that due to the high political awareness of the people, we will definitely lift the emergency and win the emergency quarantine project.”
KCNA reported that Kim has asked for strict border controls and lockdown measures to be implemented. He asked citizens to stop the spread of the virus by blocking all cities and counties across the country from their areas.
