Chandigarh, September 4 (Trinew)
Congress General Secretary and former Union Minister Kumari Selja said that by giving the pretext of doubling the income of farmers, the BJP central government and the BJP-JJP government of Haryana have made the farmers of the state more indebted. His promise to implement the Swaminathan Commission report proved to be just a mere statement. On the contrary, due to continuous increase in crop cost, farmers are drowning in debt and the debt on farmers has increased to Rs 53 thousand 907 crore. The government is only pretending to be farmer friendly. The farmer was on the streets for his rights and is still on the streets but he is not being heard.
In a statement issued from Chandigarh on Monday, Selja said that compared to 2014, there has been a continuous increase in the prices of fertilizers, seeds, pesticides, medicines, diesel, electricity and agricultural machinery. In these 9 years, there has not been such an occasion even once, when the prices of the resources and materials required for growing crops have come down. The speed with which the cost of agriculture has increased, the prices of any crop have not increased in these 9 years. Every time only assurance was given to the farmers but the government could not understand the pain of the food giver. The former Union Minister said that the central government had promised to make a law for MSP guarantee at the time of the return of the farmer’s movement.
