Elon Musk complained about the price of lithium: the striking response of the governor of Jujuy, Gerardo Morales

Elon Musk, a billionaire North American businessman, complained this Friday about lithium prices through his Twitter account and the governor of Jujuy, Gerardo Morales, responded in a striking way.

It all started when the account of the same social network “World of Statistics” published the evolution of the price of the chemical element, key in the development of Tesla electric cars, from 2012 to 2022. The price rises from 4,450 dollars a ton already at 78,032.

“The price of lithium has reached insane levels! Tesla may have to enter mining and refining directly at scale, unless costs improve“, begins the response of the tycoon who, among other things, put communication satellites in space and made trips outside the atmosphere in conjunction with NASA.

“There is no shortage of the element itself, as lithium is found almost everywhere on Earth, but the rate of extraction/refinement is slow,” he added.

Half an hour after Musk made his download through the platform of which he is now a shareholder, the governor of Jujuy appeared on the scene.

Hi Elon, I’m Gerardo Morales, Governor of Jujuy (Argentina). The two most important lithium production projects in the country are executed here with a total capacity of 80k tons per year and 20k hectares of lithium reserves available to explore. We are Jujuy Verde”, is the first post that the provincial president addresses to the businessman.

And he adds: “We have a development policy underway based on the green economy and carbon-neutrality, with our sights set on the transition to electromobility. We also have the largest photovoltaic solar park in South America (300 Mw)” .

“With the income from this state-sponsored project, we are building 258 new schools (750 being the total number of schools built in the history of our province), all equipped with solar panels.”

Moments later, a new message is sent to Musk from Morales’ account, with more details of his administration’s initiatives. “We started a 96Mw distributed solar energy generation plan and a 10Mw thermosolar plant project. We have the most advanced biotechnology complex applied to the production of medical cannabis in Latin America and we started with a green hydrogen project.”

“Many people talk and do nothing, we are innovating and launching real actions in this regard. I invite you to Jujuy to get to know our projects, our nature and our beautiful Andean culture.. Who knows, maybe the next GIGAFACTORY will be JUJEÑA”, she added.

Finally, after the invitation to the northern province, he closed his message in English and even explained why he wrote in Spanish before and assured that he trusted the Twitter translator.

“I apologize for not writing this tweet in English, that was because I’m sure the twitter translator works perfectly,” he posted. Translation: “I apologize for not writing this tweet in English, that was because I’m sure the twitter translator works perfectly.”
