Elections in Brazil: Lula da Silva says that it is “stupid” to criticize Argentina

Former President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, the favorite for this Sunday’s elections, considered President Jair Bolsonaro’s repeated criticism of Argentina to be stupid. ñ

“You can’t have a president in Brazil who is provoking Argentina every day. Argentina is our main trading partner, you know? The government is stupid,” said the PT leader.

Lula spoke at a press conference in Rio de Janeiro, in which Lula warned about possible government maneuvers for the transfer of power if he manages to defeat the president in the first round.

Bolsonaro and his allies have Argentina as one of the main targets of criticism, along with Venezuela and Chile. Bolsonaro reiterates every time he has an opportunity that the current crisis in the neighboring country, including the devaluation of the currency and the high level of unemployment, as well as the loss of international reservescould happen in Brazil if the rival returns to the presidency.

Lula, however, distanced himself this week from the Casa Rosada. In a talk with the most important businessmen in Brazil pointed to rising inflation and poverty in Argentina and questioned President Alberto Fernandez’s lack of reaction to this situation: “Fernández is stuck,” he said.

And then he continued with his harsh diagnosis. “Inflation is at 70% and I don’t know what will happen in Argentina. Hunger is very high,” he said.. On Wednesday, the Indec poverty data for the first half of the year was released: it was 36.5% and indigence 8.8%.

A son of President Bolsonaro, Eduardo, who is a legislator, mocked the Argentines, asking how, it’s not that they were friends.

In his speech in Rio and at times between laughs, Lula also criticized the privatization of the beaches that would be in a program of the Minister of Economy Paulo Guedes, on the sale of beaches. The official revealed that he suggested these operations but the Constitution prohibits it.

“Guys, how can anyone want to privatize the only public good that makes the poor look rich? You take a citizen, who may be the poorest in the world, you put on an old Hawaiian sandal, you put on a pair of shorts and you come to the beach. He doesn’t know if he’s rich or poor,” Lula said.

“We go to see the cool people buying Copacabana, and people go there on the sidewalk and come back, you know? What stupidity is this to sell the beach? “, She argued.
