‘Don’t spend money on these products on Black Friday or Christmas’: the curious advice of Jeff Bezos

The CEO of Amazon recommended reducing financial risks in the face of a possible economic crisis in 2023.

The founder of Amazon, Jeff Bezos, recently launched a series of recommendations that may well threaten their own interests. In particular, it alerted the millions of customers of its eCommerce platform about the products that should not be bought during Black Friday.

In an interview with the network CNNthe billionaire advised don’t waste money in some purchases that usually occur during these dates, for fear of a possible economic crisis in 2023.

The businessman acknowledged that “if you are thinking of buying a big screen tvthink again, keep that cash and wait and see what happens.

And he highlighted: “The same with a refrigeratora New car, or whatever. Only reduces risks”.

Bezos assured that users should be wary of rising inflation and fear of entering a recession. “We are not yet, but it is likely that we will be very soon,” he said.

In the same interview, Jeff Bezos gave details about his future, in particular what he will do with part of his estimated fortune of approximately 124.1 billion dollars, according to Forbes magazine.

The billionaire, who returned to appear publicly with his girlfriend Lauren Sanchez, assured that he will donate a large part of his estate; although he did not specify how – or to whom – he will deliver the money. However, he said the couple was building the “capacity to do it.

“The hard part is figuring out how to do it properly,” Bezos said during the interview.

“It’s not easy. Building Amazon wasn’t easy. It took a lot of hard work and very smart teammates. And I’m finding out – and Lauren is finding out – that philanthropy is very similar. Is not easy. Is very complicated”.

Bezos received criticism for not supporting Giving Pledgethe campaign launched by Bill Gates, Melinda French Gates, and Warren Buffet to encourage billionaires to give away most of their wealth through philanthropy.

His ex-wife, McKenzie Scott, signed that pledge in 2019 and has since become a formidable force in the world of philanthropy, showering charities across the country with unexpected — and often secret — contributions.

In the past three years, he has donated more than $12 billion to historically black colleges and universities, women’s rights groups, and other nonprofit organizations.

Bezos, who divorced Scott in 2019, stepped down as Amazon chief executive last year to devote more time to philanthropy and other projects. Among other donations, pledged 10,000 million to combat climate change as part of his Bezos Earth Fund initiative. Last year, he donated $510.7 million to charity, according to The Chronicle of Philanthropy.

On Saturday, the couple announced they will award a $100 million grant with no strings attached to singer Dolly Parton, who has been praised for her philanthropic work helped create Moderna’s vaccine against COVID-19.

Bezos also awarded a similar grant to chef José Andrés and CNN commentator Van Jones last year.
