Delhi Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena has ordered registration of an FIR against officials of Delhi Jal Board (DJB), a bank and a private company for alleged embezzlement of Rs 20 crore in water bills. Sources in the Lieutenant Governor’s office gave this information on Saturday. There was no immediate reaction from the Delhi government or the DJB in this regard. Sources said that the matter came to light for the first time in 2019 and it is alleged that the private company collected around Rs 20 crore from customers but did not deposit it in the bank account of DJB. He claimed that despite the allegations, the company continued to collect the bills and collected the amount through cash and cheques. Sources said that the Lieutenant Governor has directed the Chief Secretary to identify and register an FIR against the officials of DJB and the bank in the matter. He has also directed to register an FIR against the company involved. Sources said that the Lieutenant Governor has also directed the officer to recover the amount at the earliest. He said that the Lieutenant Governor has sought an action taken report in the matter within 15 days.
