Curfew, situation tense in parts of Chenab Valley of Jammu region

Bhaderwah/Jammu, June 11 (Agency) Curfew was imposed on Saturday in view of the tense situation in parts of Chenab Valley of Jammu. Officials gave this information. He said that the one-day bandh was announced in protest against the controversial remarks made by suspended Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson Nupur Sharma and expelled leader Naveen Jindal about Prophet Mohammad, which resulted in Pir Panjal area. Normal life was affected. Efforts have been intensified to defuse communal tension in the area. Prominent citizens of both the communities have requested the government to take strict action against the miscreants who are trying to disturb the peace in the area. Broadband and mobile internet services remained suspended in many areas including Bhaderwah and Kishtwar towns as a precautionary measure. Tension escalated in some areas of Bhaderwah in Doda district and Kishtwar and Ramban districts of Chenab Valley region on Thursday evening, due to which the administration imposed prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC). According to officials, curfew was later imposed in Kishtwar city as well as in some other parts of Bhaderwah and Doda district as a precautionary measure. He said that no untoward incident of any kind was reported from anywhere except the stone pelting incident in Bhaderwah. According to officials, students appearing for the Class 12 examinations were allowed to move through the curfew areas on production of their admit cards.
