Curfew in Nuh, death toll in violence rises to five

The death toll in Haryana’s Nuh district has risen to five in the violence that broke out when an attempt was made to stop the march of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP). The police gave this information on Tuesday. After the violence in Nuh, one person was killed and a religious place was torched in a mob attack in Sector-57 of Gurugram. Authorities imposed curfew in Haryana’s violence-hit Nuh district on Tuesday. During the violence in Nuh on Monday, two Home Guard jawans were killed and several people were injured. Police said the violence spread to Gurgaon as a 26-year-old man was killed and a mosque torched in Sector-57 of the city.

A senior police officer said that the mob opened fire, due to which two persons were injured and one of them succumbed during treatment. The official said that the deceased has been identified as Saad, a resident of Bihar. Police said the mob reached the Anjuman Masjid in Sector-57 after midnight and some people fired at people present in the mosque and set the premises on fire. Two more people, who were injured during the violence in Nuh, succumbed to their injuries on Monday. The deceased have been identified as home guards Neeraj and Gursevak and Shakti, a resident of Bhadas village. The identity of the fourth person killed in the violence is yet to be ascertained.

10 policemen are among the 23 people injured during the violence in Nuh. Police have registered 11 FIRs in the district in connection with the riots and detained 27 people. At least 120 vehicles were damaged during the violence in the district. Out of these, 50 vehicles including eight vehicles of policemen were set on fire.

Haryana Home Minister Anil Vij told on Tuesday that curfew has been imposed in Nuh district. Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal said on Monday that “stern action” would be taken against those responsible for the incident. He tweeted that today’s incident is unfortunate. I appeal to all the people to maintain peace in the state. The guilty will not be spared at any cost. Strict action will be taken against them.
