‘Curfew at night, rallies in lakhs during daytime, beyond comprehension’: Varun Gandhi taunts Omicron

BJP MP Varun Gandhi has raised questions on election rallies being held in UP and imposition of curfew at night amid the growing threat of Omicron in the country. Varun Gandhi said that this is beyond the comprehension of the common public. He taunted by tweeting that curfew has been imposed in the night, while lakhs of people are being called in rallies during the day.


Varun Gandhi tweeted and wrote, ‘Imposing curfew at night and calling lakhs of people in rallies during the day – this is beyond the comprehension of common people. Given Uttar Pradesh’s limited healthcare systems, we have to honestly decide whether our priority is to stop the spread of the dreaded Omicron or a show of electoral power.

Let us inform, in view of the increase in the cases of Covid-19 in various states of the country, night corona curfew was imposed in Uttar Pradesh from Saturday. Nightly Corona Curfew will be effective from 11 pm to 5 am in the state. Along with this, instructions were also given that participation of maximum 200 people should be allowed in public events like marriages etc. with the Covid protocol and the organizer would inform the local administration.

On the other hand, every party is holding their own rallies regarding the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections. Lakhs of people are reaching these rallies. A large number of people are attending the rallies of PM Modi, Akhilesh Yadav, Congress leaders. In such a situation, questions are being raised continuously about the night curfew of the UP government that imposed curfew in the night, but lakhs of people are joining the rallies during the day.

Let us tell you, the assembly elections are to be held in Uttar Pradesh early next year. In the 2017 assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, the Bharatiya Janata Party won 312 seats out of the 403-seat assembly, while the Samajwadi Party (SP) got 47. The BSP managed to win 19 seats and the Congress only 7 seats.
