Regarding the accumulated cases of COVID-19 in the country, the entities with the highest number of infections are: Mexico City, State of Mexico, Nuevo León, Guanajuato, Jalisco, Tabasco, San Luis Potosí, Veracruz, Puebla and Sonora, which make up 65 percent of total cases.

The expert, member of the Department of Public Health of the Faculty of Medicine of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM)said in an interview that these subvariants are the ones that most attract the attention of people who are not vaccinated against the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
“This increase in cases is due to omicron subvariants as the virus mutates” which, he explained, “makes it more contagious” while there are still “susceptible” people.
“It is true that there is an increase in cases, but it has not reached the levels of previous waves. The number of deaths is expected to be lower due to the advancement of vaccination,” she added.
The specialist recommended resuming the sanitary protection measures that existed when the virus appeared in Mexico to contain the new wave.
