Coralia, concert choir of the UPR, offers a gala concert en route to Ireland

As a prelude to his trip to Ireland as a guest to participate in the Cork International Choral Competition, in the city of Cork precisely, Coralia —Concert Choir of the Río Piedras venue of the University of Puerto Rico—will offer a gala concert this Sunday, March 24 at 5:00 pm at the Pablo Casals Symphony Hall of the Fine Arts Center Luis A. Ferréin Santurce, under the direction of its founder, Dr. Carmen Acevedo Lucío.

This historic competition was established 69 years ago and is recognized as one of the most important in Europe. Coralia is one of 10 participating choirs and will compete alongside choirs from Norway, Finland, England, Estonia, the Netherlands, Ireland and the United States in the competition that will take place between April 29 and May 7.

The repertoire that will be offered this Sunday will include works by composers such as Levente Gyöngyösi, Heinrich Schütz, Ángel “Cucco” Peña, Felix Mendelssohn, Roberto Valera and Eric Whitacre, as well as the traditional Irish song “Danny Boy”. As special guests they will join Caribbean Tenors.
