Pakistan in different parts of China the language of mandarinChina has called back the Chinese teachers who taught. These Chinese teachers have left for home after being called back by Beijing in the wake of the recent deadly attacks in Pakistan. An official of Karachi University gave this information on Monday. A few weeks ago, a Baloch female suicide bomber wearing a burqa detonated herself near a vehicle inside Pakistan’s prestigious Karachi University. Three Chinese teachers, including the head of the Confucius Institute and his local driver, were killed in an attack against Chinese citizens in the country’s financial capital.

The Majeed Brigade, affiliated with the outlawed Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), claimed responsibility on April 26 for an attack on teachers near the Chinese-built Confucius Institute.

A Karachi University official said Chinese teachers teaching at the campus’s Confucius Institute left for home on Sunday. “Many Chinese teachers were also teaching in different institutions of the country and they returned yesterday,” he said.

Dr. Nasir Uddin, director of the Confucius Institute at the University of Karachi, said that the return of Chinese teachers is a big blow to the students learning Mandarin. “We have around 500 students in our institute and now we are contemplating to organize online classes for them so that they can complete their syllabus,” he said.

He said that the Chinese government has called back the teachers of various Confucian institutions of the country. Nasser Uddin said that the Confucius Institute is a not-for-profit educational institution that aims to study Mandarin, deepen international understanding of the language and Chinese culture, and promote people-to-people contact between China and Pakistan.

The BLA’s April 26 suicide bombing killed the institution’s head Huang Guiping and two other Chinese teachers, Chen Sai and Ding Mupeng, while their local driver, Khalid Nawaz, was also killed in the blast.

The Chinese government had reacted strongly to the attacks on its citizens working in Pakistan.

The BLA is opposing China’s investment in Pakistan, especially in restive Balochistan, saying it has not benefited the local people.
