China’s Chang’e 5 mission finds evidence of water on the Moon’s surface

The amount of water on the Moon can be estimated

China’s Chang’e-5 lander has found ‘on the spot’ evidence of water on the Moon’s surface, providing new information about the satellite’s dryness. A study published on Saturday in the science journal ‘Science Advances’ states that the amount of water in the soil at the site of the spacecraft’s landing on the Moon is less than 120 grams per ton and that place is much drier than on Earth. Remote tests had previously confirmed the presence of water, but the spacecraft has now detected signs of water in rocks and soil. A special instrument mounted on the vehicle examined the rocks and surface and detected water on the spot for the first time.
