Chelsea footballer César Azpilicueta He has completed the number of games necessary to extend his contract for another season, until 2023, but the club’s situation, with its assets frozen, has not allowed the renewal to become official.
The Navarrese, whose contract ends on June 30, has a clause in his contract by which, upon reaching a certain number of meetings, this would be extended for another year. This number was met after the club’s assets were frozen by Roman Abramovich’s suspension, so the clause has not yet been activated.
As Efe learned, the situation will be unblocked when the Chelsea find a new owner, something that is expected to happen at the end of April. Right now, the English club has four official suitors, from whom Abramovich’s successor will emerge.
This enlargement does not imply that Azpilicueta cannot sign for Barcelona, who is still very interested in signing the side. In addition, the situation at Chelsea with this type of expansion is not new. Last season, the club renewed Olivier Giroud in June for a few weeks later to transfer him to Milan for an amount just over a million euros. Chelsea’s goal was to get some economic revenue. In the case of Azpilicueta, the operation may be easier due to the status of the captain.
Azpilicueta has the approval of the club to decide his future and, if he so wishes, I would receive facilities to sign for the club that I wanted. Barcelona wants to incorporate him next summer to reinforce his right wing, but the decision by the Navarrese has not yet been made.
Since his arrival in 2012, Azpilicueta has won every possible title at Chelsea, including the long-awaited Champions League as captain last year
