Chandni Chowk: Upper floor collapsed after massive fire in 3-storey building

The upper floor of a three-storey building collapsed on Monday after a massive fire broke out in a three-storey building in central Delhi’s most congested area of ​​Chandni Chowk. A building adjacent to it was also damaged.

The fire was brought under control after 11 hours of hard work in the building located near Chandni Chowk metro station, officials said. Director of Delhi Fire Services Atul Garg said that the fire was reported at around 10.40 pm on Sunday night. Initially, six fire tenders were sent to the spot. Later, 40 vehicles were sent after the fire assumed a formidable form. More than 150 firefighters were deployed at the spot. A senior department official said, “There was no one in the building at the time of the incident as shops and godowns were closed. One fire brigade received injuries during the firefighting operation. He said that during the rescue operation, firefighters had to work from a nearby building as the fire had taken a formidable form. All the doors and windows in the building were closed and there was no place to go inside. The building had flammable materials and clothes mostly in godowns and shops, the official said. The fire is suspected to have been caused by an electrical fault.
