Case against Jain is an attempt to divert attention from the killing of Kashmiri Pandits: Sanjay Singh

New Delhi, June 1 (agency)

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Sanjay Singh on Wednesday alleged that the Center was trying to divert attention from the killings of Kashmiri Pandits in the Valley by opening an old case against Delhi minister Satyendar Jain. Instead of worrying about sending Jain to jail, he said the Center should think of ways to eliminate terrorists in Kashmir. Jain, who held several portfolios including health, home and electricity in the Delhi government, was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Monday in a money laundering case. A Delhi court on Tuesday sent him to ED custody till June 9.

In a press conference, Singh said, “At a time when Kashmiri Pandits are being killed every day, the Center is trying to divert attention from the issue by opening an old case (against Jain). Why did the ED nab Jain just before the Himachal Pradesh elections, who was sleeping for the last eight years?’ He asked, “In the last 8 years he was summoned 7 times by the ED. But when he (AAP) was made in-charge of Himachal Pradesh and when AAP was active in the state, why was he arrested?” Assembly elections are due in Himachal Pradesh this year. After the resounding electoral victory in Punjab this year, AAP is trying to strengthen its political grip in the state. Singh alleged that the Center was not serious about the plight of Kashmiri Pandits.

“It would have been better if the Center had held a cabinet meeting to discuss ways to wipe out terrorists, protect Kashmiri Pandits and save their lives,” he said. He said, “It is shameful that the BJP-led Center is worried about Himachal Pradesh elections and is troubled how to send Jain to jail and defame AAP. Kashmir is burning and Kashmiri Pandits are being killed. Please wake up and take care of their safety.” He said that after the release of the film ‘The Kashmir Files’, the central government ministers talked about Kashmiri Pandits, but none of them tweeted about the killings in the Valley.

Hitting back at Union Minister Smriti Irani, who today hit out at Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for defending Jain, Singh said, “Those who were involved in the Rafale scam, whose national president was caught on camera taking bribe, whose leaders were on oximeters. And were involved in Jal Jeevan Mission scam, they are talking about morality today. The real face of BJP has come before the public.” Attacking Kejriwal, Irani cited several details related to the money laundering case allegedly related to Jain and asked the chief minister why he was “protecting” a “traitor”.
