At minute 46, the Mexican was already in fifth, also surpassed by Sainz although above Hamilton, who was then in sixth; while Verstappen continued to mark the guide with 1:14:532.
Valtteri Bottas was left waiting in the pits due to technical problems in his single-seater Alfa Romeo, while Gasly spent the lap on the other side than the one indicated by the arrows. also activated a virtual safety car to take out a can on the track –of 4 thousand 316 meters–.
For half of the exercises Verstappen scored a double record in the first two sectors increasing the advantage; at his opportunity, Pérez moved up from ninth to fifth, one second behind the leader, but not by much as Russell moved up to third and Sainz recovered, so he returned to tenth.
