The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved the ‘Pradhan Mantri Schools for Rising India’ (PM-Shri) scheme to develop and upgrade 14,597 schools as ideal schools across the country with an outlay of Rs 27,360 crore. The proposal to this effect was approved in the meeting of the Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Giving this information after the cabinet meeting, Union Ministers Dharmendra Pradhan and Anurag Thakur said that these schools would include Kendriya Vidyalayas, Navodaya Vidyalayas and government schools run by the states and local bodies. The Union Education Minister informed that the PM-Shri School Scheme will be implemented over a period of five years from 2022-2027. Rs 27,360 crore will be spent on this, in which the Centre’s share will be Rs 18,128 crore. This will benefit 18 lakh students. Pradhan said that these schools would be technology driven and business studies and entrepreneurship would be an important part of these schools. These schools will also have 3D labs and the experiment of coming to school without bags for 10 days will also start. He said that the objective of these schools would be not only to develop cognitive or intellectual development but also to produce holistic and fully developed students with core skills. He said that for the first time, funds will be given directly from the center to the schools, which can be up to 40 percent. Appropriate arrangements will also be made for its monitoring. Pradhan informed that Vidya Samiksha Kendra will be started in PM-Shri schools on the basis of pilot project. For this a portal will be created on which the details of the performance of every student of every school will be there.
