Businessmen ask for impeachment against Arturo Zaldívar for supporting the Electricity Law

The Mexican Business Council announced that they will request a political trial for the four ministers of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN) who se refused to declare the Electricity Industry Law (LIE) unconstitutional.

Those involved are the minister president Arturo Zaldivarthe ministers Loretta Ortiz and Yasmín Esquivel and the minister Alfredo Gutiérrez Ortiz Mena.

“With surprise we saw an evasive Minister President (Arturo Zaldívar), who with his vote has already raised the cost of electricity in Mexico, since now we will have to form work teams between individuals and companies to give way to the legal fight for through the amparos (…) but the law is clear and we will have to win each and every one of the legal resources that we process,” said Juan Carlos Pérez Góngora, president of the Mexican Business Council.

The business representative expressed that they will not rest until it is applied an exemplary punishment for the ministers who “betrayed the country”, since they proved to work for President Andrés Manuel López Obrador and not for the Mexicans.

“These ministers will go down in history as ‘vases’ of the National Palace,” he said.

Likewise, he expressed his support for the ministers who withstood pressure and decided to vote in favor of Mexico.

“For them, our recognition and respect. We believe in the institutions, we believe in the Rule of Law and we believe in the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation as the Highest Organ for Imparting Justice in Mexico and this will be made clear in the resolution of the amparos that will have to be presented before Judges and Circuit Magistrates throughout the country,” he stressed.

Finally, Pérez indicated that the ‘legal fights’ are just beginning, since the business community will have the opportunity to defend themselves in court, for which he called on all interested parties who feel attacked by the resolution of the Electricity Law to form teams against work.
