Brother and sister won gold in junior national athletics, villagers honored

Sister-brother duo from village Ranila have won gold medals in the Under-20 age group at the Junior National Athletics Championship in Assam’s Guwahati. Kumari Shiksha Sahu won gold medals in shot put 14.02 meters and her younger brother Atul Sahu won gold medals in discus throw 60.17 meters. Shiksha broke her 2014 record of 59.62m to set a new record. At the same time, Rishabh Sahu of the same village won the bronze medal in the Under-18 discus throw event with 56.17 metres. On reaching the village, the players were honored by the villagers.

All the three players were felicitated in a program organized at the government school of village Ranila on Thursday. Krishna Kumar DPE said that Atul Sahu and Rishabh Sahu were selected in the School World Championship last days. But unfortunately both the players were deprived of this competition due to not getting the visa for France.

However, Atul Sahu unfurled the tricolor by winning a gold medal abroad representing India in the discus throw event of the Youth Asiad held in Kuwait. On this occasion, Deputy DEO Jaldhir Kalkal, Principal Satyapal Shastri, Spokesperson Shri Bhagwan, Hon. Mahavir Singh, former sarpanch Rishi Sahu, former sarpanch Sunil Sahu, sarpanch Bholu contractor, spokesperson Krishna Kumar, Bharat Fauji, wrestler Nafe wrestler, Satish Koch were present during this.
