Braulio Castillo, son, confesses his love for Culebra, reviews his career and talks about new projects

The relationship of the actor Braulio Castillo, Jr., with the island municipality of Culebra began 37 years ago when the artist bought his first boat and since then, he confesses to being in love with the so-called “cradle of the Borincano sun” where he returned to reconnect with his people. .

This after accepting the invitation to have “A coffee in the square”, together with the journalist Rosalina Marrero, who interviewed him on the Juan de la Cruz court, as part of the Somos Puerto Rico project on Isla Chiquita.

There he told interesting anecdotes about his stay in Culebra and the friendships he made, as well as mentioning experiences in soap operas, comparisons with his famous father and what he learned when he was diagnosed with prostate cancer.

“This island to me means a lot, a lot. My relationship with Culebra began in 1985 when I bought my first boat that was launched in Las Croabas in Fajardo and I was going to Icacos, Palomino, until a friend told me: ‘Let’s go to Culebra one day’. And I told him: ‘Yes, forget it, let’s go to Culebra,’ recalled the award-winning actor.

“Getting here to Culebra is like having overcome every challenge. Then I kept coming and getting to know Culebra and started getting to know its residents. In fact, the best farewell of the year that I have had in my life was in Culebra; I came with Myraida Chaves and her daughter for the year 2009. These people are passing out, ”she said.

He also revealed how his life changed after the dreaded diagnosis that he classified as “a magical moment.”

“When I was diagnosed with prostate cancer, for me it was a magical moment in my life because it made me open my eyes and think how fragile life is and how much I was missing. At that moment I told myself we are going to live one day at a time, get the most out of life and enjoy it, ”he explained.

It was his participation in the novel Coralito, starring the very first actress Sully Díaz and the Mexican actor Salvador Pineda, the path that opened other opportunities for him.

There he personified the villain Gregory.

“That was my first novel. The wicked have consecrated me, they have persecuted me. The bad guy character gives an actor the possibility and the opportunity to express or capture all those mixed feelings in the work because the bad guy kind of has a license for everything. They give you a chance for producers to see you in that spectrum of work,” he stated of the 1983 melodrama.

“I made a novel called ‘The Return of the Gypsy’; It was nothing more than giving continuity to the work of my father who starred in ‘Renzo el Gitano’. It earned me the award, a recognition from the producers. There was a Cemí award and it gave me the opportunity to star on channel 2 ″, he said.

However, he assured that the comparisons that people made between his work and his father’s successful acting career did not discourage him. On the contrary, “I always felt very sure of what he was doing.”

“My father supported me, he told me: ‘This is fine, this is not’. I knew it was going to be a matter of time, I didn’t take anything for granted. When one does things with passion and it is your passion and you do not want to do anything else, you continue and the other comes in addition, “he said when reviewing another of his great successes with the character of Pedro Antonio Arizmendi in Tanairí.

On the other hand, he rejected that being considered a leading man in soap operas made him lose his way.

“That cannot happen, because the day you believe the story you become a figurine. If there is someone who taught me that one should have one’s feet firmly on the ground, it is my father. It was the example that I followed, I saw that dedication in my father. There is no glamour. Here it is grinding glass with his chest, ”he limited.

During the interview, Castillo revealed what his next projects will be, among them, the play ‘The Worst Singer in the World’ with Marilyn Pupo, Yamaris Latorre, Idalia Pérez Garay and Jasond Calderón, which will go on stage on August 19 at the Centro of Fine Arts.

“Then we come to a theater classic called ‘La Gaviota’. There is a project for October, very good, that at one point the production company Teatro del 60 did. (There) I have the privilege of being on stage with Idalia Pérez Garay, it is a work between two. In November I have the musical, ”she detailed.

“In February of next year, West Side Story is going to be made in Puerto Rico. There are many projects, I had never had a season with so much work, ”she concluded by thanking the public for supporting his work.
