Eight people, including members of an Indian family, have died after drowning in the St. Lawrence River while trying to enter the US illegally from Canada. Officials gave this information on Friday. According to Canadian news organizations ‘CBC’ and ‘CTV’, police found bodies near an overturned boat in an area of ​​Quebec on Thursday morning during an aerial search with the Canadian Coast Guard.

Lee-Ann O’Brien, deputy chief of the Akwesane Mohawk Police Service, said at a press conference on Friday, ‘It is believed that the six people were from two families. One family is of Romanian origin and the other is from India. The officer said, ‘It is believed that all were trying to enter the US illegally from Canada.’ Eight people, including two children, were found dead in a swamp near the Canada-US border after trying to enter the United States illegally, police said Friday.

Their bodies were found near a sunken boat belonging to a missing person from the Akwesne Mohawk community, officials said. “A total of eight bodies have now been recovered from the water,” local police chief Sean Dulude told a news conference. Canadian authorities believe that all were attempting to enter the United States illegally from Canada. Mohawk tribal territory extends into the Canadian provinces of Quebec and Ontario and the US state of New York.
