BJP expels MLA Shobharani, who cross-voted in favor of Congress candidate Pramod Tiwari

Jaipur, June 15 (Agency)

The Bharatiya Janata Party has expelled its MLA Shobharani Kushwaha from the party for ‘cross voting’ in the Rajya Sabha elections in Rajasthan. Om Pathak, the secretary of the party’s Central Disciplinary Committee, sent this information to the MLA by sending a letter. The letter said to the MLA, “You are expelled from the party with immediate effect and also relieved of any other responsibility given by the party.” According to the letter, separate action will be taken for violation of discipline by Kushwaha being the MLA of the party.

It is noteworthy that in the Rajya Sabha elections held on June 10, Kushwaha had done ‘cross-voting’ in favor of Congress candidate Pramod Tiwari in violation of the party whip. The BJP had issued a show cause notice on the same day suspending Kushwaha from the party. The MLA was to reply to it by June 19, but before that he issued a statement in the media and targeted the party. The MLA said that the party asked him to vote for such an independent candidate in the Rajya Sabha elections who were openly discussing ‘cross voting’. Kushwaha, who became an MLA for the second time, is the wife of former BSP MLA BL Kushwaha. Her husband was disqualified as an MLA in December 2016 after being convicted in a murder case. In the 2017 by-election, BJP gave ticket to Shobharani and she won. He retained this victory in the 2018 assembly elections as well.
