Benzema and Vinícius put Madrid on course for the title in Mallorca (0-3)

The Real Madrid has taken a giant step forward in its aspirations to become champion of LaLiga by defeat Mallorca 0-3 in the stadium Son Moix with two goals from the Frenchman Karim Benzema, one of them from a penalty, and another from the Brazilian Vinicius jr.

With the three points won in Palma, the team from Carlo Ancelotti they are ten ahead of Sevilla in the standings, a considerable distance with ten games to go until the end of the championship.

Not all was good news tonight for the madridistas in their 20th win of the season (10 of them away). Benzema and Rodrygo they had to leave the field of play in the second half due to injuries, perhaps the most serious being that of the Brazilian, who had to receive help to leave the field of play.

When Benzema retired due to a muscular problem, Madrid played the last minutes with ten players as Ancelotti had made all the regulatory changes.

Mallorca fought and had their chances, but could not avoid the fifth consecutive defeat, which keeps them two points from relegation.

The start of the game did not deviate one iota from the planned script: White dominance with the ball against a retracted rival but exerting constant pressure, which bogged down the visiting offensive game.

Madrid is used to playing these high-intensity matches, although the two defeats it has suffered this season (Espanyol and Getafe) were precisely against opponents lower down the table.

Carlo Ancelotti, with Barça in sight, opted for Lucas Vázquez and the Brazilian Rodrygo as novelties in an eleven to which Ferland Mendy and Casemiro also returned.

The Italian coach rested the Croatian Luka Modric and Dani Carvajaland also dispensed with the former Mallorcan player Marco Asensio; the last minute sick leave due to the Brazilian flu Eder Militao allowed to nacho fernandez maintain ownership in the center of defense with the return of the French Ferland Mendy on the left side.

Above Rodrygo completed the trident together with Vinicius Junior and BenzemaIn other words, Ancelotti made it clear from the start that his team was coming to the island to win.

In Mallorca, García Plaza opted to maintain the backbone of the team. The Madrid coach gave continuity to the defensive block, with the exception of Oliván for Costa, dispensed with Salva Sevilla in midfield and trusted the Japanese Take Kubo and the kosovar Vedat Muriqi the mission to test Thibaut Courtois.

Spurred on by the public that was almost full in the stands and their precarious situation in the table, the vermilion resisted the harassment of the visitors, fighting for every ball.

That way, Paul Maffeo found spaces to crash a ball at base of stick Courtois’s left after a poor clearance by the Madrid defense

Muriqi wasted a chance by hitting the ball poorly after Brian Oliván’s cross and Take Kubo also missed when he had options to open the scoring.

The claw and the local push leveled, for moments, the fight in the game rectangle.

Despite the noticeable difference between the members of both squads, García Plaza’s players, however, managed to equate white superiority with a waste of energy.

Only Benzema and Vinicius dangerously approached Sergio Rico’s goal, goalkeeper on loan from PSG in the winter market.

The visiting dominance was evident with the percentages of possession of the ball in the first 45 minutes: Mallorca (32%) and Madrid (68%).

Ancelotti sent Modric and Camavinga to warm up -they came on in the 60th minute for Valverde and Casemiron- as soon as a second half began that began to lean in favor of Madrid with a highly protested Vinicius Jr goal at Son Moix.

Fede Valverde snatched the ball from Babapossibly with a foul, although the referee did not appreciate it as such, and facilitated the Brazilian’s goal, the fourteenth he has scored this season.

Majorca, with Abdón Prats and Salva Sevilla went up in search of a tie, but found Karim Benzema’s sentence. The Frenchman scored two goals, one of them from a penalty, to raise his private account to 22 goals this season.

Shortly after (min. 84), the French striker left his team with 10 players on the field when he retired due to a muscle problem when his team had already made all the permitted changes.

The 0-3 left Mallorca unansweredwho finished in the final minutes with his entire arsenal on the pitch: Abdón Prats, Amath Ndiayé, Kang In Lee and the Frenchman Clèment Grenier, the latter making his debut after arriving two weeks ago to replace Íñigo Ruiz de Galarreta, injured from gravity.
