Badminton George, Mesnam and Manjunath in pre-quarterfinals

India’s Kiran George, Meraba Luwang Mesnam and Mithun Manjunath advanced to the men’s singles pre-quarterfinals after winning their second round matches of the Orleans Masters Super 100 badminton tournament here. Jorge made an upset by defeating third seed Mark Kalzou of the Netherlands 19-21 21-16 23-21. Qualifier Meraba defeated eighth seed Toby Penty of England 21-16 21-16, while Manjunath defeated compatriot Siddharth Pratap Singh 21-14 21-10.

George, who won the Odisha Super 100 tournament in January, will face Indonesia’s qualifier Christian Edinata.

Meraba will next face Hong Kong’s Chan Yin Chak and Manjunathan against Denmark’s second seed Hans Kristian Solberg Wittinghas.

Indian pair of Ashwini Bhatt K and Shikha Gautam registered a 21-23 21-12 21-10 win over Amalie Schulz and Christine Bush. The pair of PS Ravikrishna and Shankar Prasad Udayakumar also entered the pre-quarterfinals. Top seed B Sai Praneeth and women’s singles players Anupama Upadhyay and Ira Sharma advanced to the third round on Wednesday night. The mixed doubles pair of Ishaan Bhatnagar and Tanisha Crasto also overcame the opening round hurdle.
