The Israeli daily Calcalist claimed in a detailed report earlier this week that the Israeli police were using military-level spy equipment to produce dossiers and initial-stage investigations of its local citizens, even though Such people should not be facing criminal charges.

Israel’s Attorney General Avike Mandelblit informed Police Commissioner Kobi Shabtai on Thursday that he would set up a committee to investigate, the Haaretz newspaper reported. The committee is being set up after a controversy sparked by a local media report that the police was using NSO’s Pegasus spyware. Which gives the police access to the entire data on the victim’s phone. According to the news, even these were being used to make dossiers on citizens of Israel who were not facing criminal charges.

The newspaper said the police admitted to the use of spyware following the publication of investigative reports on spy software, but said that in each case a court warrant was obtained for its use.

According to the news, the inquiry committee will be headed by Deputy Attorney General Amit Harari and will have two more members.

Mendelblit, however, said in his letter to Shabtai that the initial investigation into the matter “found no basis for fear of illegal, systematic use by the Israel Police, and we are satisfied that the Israel Police is acting on the basis of its powers under the law.” Still working.”

The Attorney General has asked the police to provide all those warrants to his office, on the basis of which the communication of the people was heard during the last two years.

Meanwhile, Public Security Minister Omar Bar-Lev said the attorney general has clearly stated that the police acted according to the law from a systematic approach.

Bar-Lev said, “With regard to private incidents, no violations of legal guidelines were found. However, there may be certain illegal incidents and hence the Attorney General decided to set up an inquiry committee.”
