Asia Cup T20 tournament in Sri Lanka from August 27

Colombo, March 19 (Agency) The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) announced after its annual general meeting here on Saturday that Sri Lanka will host the Asia Cup T20 tournament from August 27 to September 11. All five Test teams from across the continent, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh and hosts Sri Lanka, will take part in the tournament, with another Asian team, which will be decided after the qualifier tournament begins on August 20. The ACC tweeted after its AGM, “Asia Cup 2022 (T20 Format) will be held in Sri Lanka this year from August 27 to September 11. The qualifiers for this will be played after August 20, 2022. The last leg of the tournament was played in 2018 in which India won. The 2020 phase had to be postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Sri Lanka was to host the 2020 leg but due to the pandemic it was first postponed to 2021, after which it was decided to hold it again in 2022. Pakistan was earlier to host the 2022 Asia Cup, now it will host the 2023 stage. The sixth team to join the tournament will be from the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Kuwait, Singapore and Hong Kong.
