Asia Cup: Rahul and Iyer included in the Indian team, Verma also included

KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer, who have been out of action for some time due to injury, were on Monday included in the Indian squad for the Asia Cup starting on August 31. Young batsman Tilak Verma has also been named in the squad for the ODI format for the first time.

There were question marks on the fitness of Rahul and Iyer. Both these players are making a comeback after recovering from thigh and back pain respectively. Iyer played his last match in March, while Rahul played in May. Wicket-keeper batsman Sanju Samson has been included in the team as a backup to Rahul. Recently, Rahul was in trouble due to a minor injury.

Announcing the team, chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar said, “Rahul’s new problem is not related to the original injury.” It’s a minor injury. We are hopeful that Rahul will be fit. Even if he is not fully fit at the start of the Asia Cup, he is likely to be fit by the second or third match. Shreyas Iyer is fully fit. Fast bowler Prasad Krishna, who made a comeback in the ongoing series against Ireland after recovering from injury, has also been included in the squad for the Asia Cup. Tilak Verma had an impressive performance in his debut T20I series against the West Indies. The 20-year-old player is currently on a tour of Ireland.
