Apple released an emergency security update: which iPhone models should download it

The vulnerability also affects some iPad models.

To counter any intrusion, Apple released an update to firmware iOS 12.5.7 that protects these six affected devices.

If you don’t have automatic updates enabled, just go to the Settings app and then General > Software Update. Likewise, in the “Automatic updates” section, “Download iOS updates” and “Install iOS updates” must be activated. This will automatically update your device to the latest version of iOS or iPadOS.

The technology company, led by Tim Cook, admitted that it is “aware of a report that this issue may have been actively exploited against versions of iOS released before iOS 15.1”, so it is definitely a good idea to install the update.

The longevity of the iPhone 5S, which is ten years old, made Apple extend its update program for this eventuality.
