Another new variant of coronavirus surfaced in Cyprus, stirred up after getting 25 cases

Corona’s new variant Deltakron is the first to be found in Cyprus (Symbolic)

Amidst the worldwide havoc of Omicron, another variant of the corona virus has knocked. A new variant of Covid-19 has appeared in Cyprus, which has been named Deltacron. Samples related to 25 cases of DeltaCron in the European country of Cyprus have been sent to the International Database Center GISAID, for further analysis. These centers have been keeping a close watch on this variant since January 7. According to the news published in Bloomberg, The University of Cyprus said, it is made from a mixture of Omicron and Delta variants.

Levondios Kostriks, Professor of Biological Sciences at the University of Cyprus, said that this strain was created by the fusion of Delta and Omicron. Kostrix is also the head of the Biotechnology Molecular Virology Center in Cyprus.
He said that the Omicron and Delta variants are currently the most dominant variants in the world and this new variant is taking shape due to a mixed transition between the two. It has been named Deltacron. It has evolved from the merging of a variant with an omicron-like genetic trait in the delta genome.

Kostrix and his team have identified 25 such cases so far. The team has also found that people hospitalized due to Covid-19 infection are more likely to have this infection than those who are not hospitalized. For more study about these 25 cases, they have been sent to the international database. So that it can be found out how infectious or lethal this variant can be. There has been no response from the World Health Organization regarding this variant yet.

Costrix says that we will see later whether this variant is more sick or remains more infectious. It remains to be seen how much impact it shows against Delta and Omicron. But he said, it is my personal opinion that this strain will also lag behind the highly contagious Omicron variant of Corona.
