ISLAMABAD, April 1 (Agency)
Pakistan summoned a senior US diplomat here to register a strong reaction to the alleged “interference” of the US in the country’s internal affairs. This information came to light in the news published in the media on Friday. The US State Department on Thursday rejected Prime Minister Imran Khan’s statement that Washington’s role was a “foreign conspiracy” to oust him from power. In a live telecast address to the nation, the 69-year-old Khan referred to “a threatening letter” and said a foreign conspiracy had been hatched to oust him from power to pursue an independent foreign policy. He said that America is behind the threat letter. However, it is believed that due to slip of tongue, Khan took the name of America. According to the news of Dunya News, sources said that Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry summoned the American diplomat over the issue of “threatening letter”. This step was taken after the decision taken by the National Security Council of Pakistan on Thursday. The State Department also handed over a letter to the US diplomat expressing strong objection to the tone used by the foreign official during the formal communication. The purported letter referred to by Khan warned of dire consequences if the opposition’s no-confidence motion against Khan was dropped. According to the news of Duniya News, the American diplomat was told that interference in the internal affairs of Pakistan is unacceptable.
