As a traditional start to the Amarnath Yatra, the first puja was performed at the holy cave on Jyestha Purnima on Saturday. Sages-saints and scholars duly worshiped the holy Himalinga by performing Havan and Aarti. Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha joined it through video conferencing.
Earlier this puja was performed in Chandanbari, but due to the situation arising due to Corona, it was performed in Jammu in the year 2019, while in 2020, despite the cancellation of the yatra, the puja was performed in the cave. Last year also the first puja was performed in the holy cave itself.
Speaking on the occasion, the Lt Governor said that pilgrimage to the holy cave of Baba Amarnath is the dream of a lifetime for lakhs of devotees across the globe. Lots of support from the local residents for the successful conduct of the Yatra.

The Lieutenant Governor said, it will be our endeavor that the devotees coming to Amarnath from India and abroad take a good experience with them.
Sinha assured to restore both the yatra routes soon. He said that this year there has been heavy snowfall and the weather has been bad during the last few days, yet the officials of the Border Roads Organization along with their teams are busy in restoring the road completely.
Aarti will be broadcast live: Aarti will be telecast live in the morning and evening from the holy cave of Baba Amarnath. The 62-day Amarnath Yatra will begin from July 1 and continue till August 31, the day of Raksha Bandhan. Registration for the Yatra has started across the country from 17th April.
