Almost a million COVID patients a day: WHO fears the collapse of health systems

In most countries, the Omicron strain is already dominant today. According to research, it is more contagious, but does not cause as many severe cases as Delta. But according to Gebreyesus, a previous version of the virus is still circulating in the world and poses a threat. And mixing these two strains poses a threat to the population and health systems of different countries.

According to Johns Hopkins University, since the beginning of the pandemic, 284.6 million people have fallen ill with the coronavirus, and 5.4 million have died.

High incidence rates are observed in France, USA, UK, Denmark, Portugal and Australia. And in Poland, record deaths as a result of COVID have been recorded for several days.

“All this means an incredible burden on medical workers, health systems are on the verge of collapse,” - said the head of the WHO.
